Nunavut Election Results Confirm NDP Retains Seat

The NDP has successfully held onto its seat in Nunavut, with incumbent Lori Idlout winning re-election amid strong turnout and support from Inuit communities.
Lori Idlout, Member of Parliament for Nunavut, has retained her seat following a closely watched election. With over 68% of votes counted, Elections Canada declared her the official winner late Friday night.
Idlout, a lawyer and vocal advocate for Indigenous rights, first won the seat in 2021 and has since pushed for better healthcare, housing, and infrastructure in the North. Her campaign focused on climate resilience, affordability, and defending Inuit self-governance.
Challenger Kilikvak Kabloona, running under the Liberal banner, conceded shortly after results were confirmed. She praised Idlout’s public service and called for continued investment in Nunavut’s future.
Voter turnout was reported to be over 60%, an unusually high figure for such a remote riding. Many credit aggressive early voting campaigns and radio outreach in Inuktitut for the civic engagement.
